A news headline is the “soul” of the news article. A good headline should not only attract readers’ attention, trigger their reading desire but also help them grasp the main idea. Thus, headlines should be both very concise and striking. Rhetorical devices will help to make an news article more elegant, eye-catching and original. The present paper is an attempt to present some common rhetorical methods, analyze their rhetorical features, and summarize the effects of rhetorical methods used in English news headlines.
