Life-long English Learning ????????Do you love English? Probably most people would give a negative answer which is of course a great hinder to English learning. No one doubts that interest is an aspect of profound significance in learning. Hence the urgent need of cultivating an integral motivation rather than an instrumental one towards leaning English. At this point I urge you not to take English as an instrument but as a life-long friend with whom you are closely attached. Try to make out some reason for which you should carry out life-long English learning. You are the one who should account for the primary problem of how to love English. It is only after you have persuaded yourself to love English that we could come to solution of the second problem of how to learn English well. ??????? I am convinced that every one has his own unique way of learning a subject at which he does a good job. Here is my personal experience in leaning English which will be stated in the order of the four language skills. ??????? Concerning language, the skills that should be given top priority are listening and speaking. Before you can gain excellent oral English proficiency, you are required of reading text books following tape recorder. It is the basis of practicing your pronunciation and gaining a certain amount of vocabulary. The one conspicuous phenomenon which characterizes Beijing International Studies University is that the students here all hold a passion for reading aloud. Whenever I go to the classroom, the library or the reading room, there are many students outside reading loud and clearly text books in various languages. That is perhaps why graduates from this school are well-known for their oral proficiency. I keep the habit of morning reading ever since I started to learn English in junior middle school ten years ago. More than one hour every day. And unfortunately the loudness of my voice often evokes protestation around. Reading endows me with some kind of pleasure
