广东省研究生暑期学校 强场激光物理 2015.8.8-10 报告人照片 报告人 报告人简历 报告题目 Lin chii-Dong Dr. Lin received his PhD degree from University of Chicago in 1974 under Dr. Ugo Fano. He did his postdoc research at Harvard University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Laboratory with Dr. Alex Dalgarno. He was hired by Kansas State University in 1976, went through the ranks and became a full professor in 1984, then later named University Distinguished Professor in 1990. Dr. Lin’s research covered a wide spectrum in Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics. In the 1970’s he studied many-body effect in photoionization and electron correlation of atoms. He proposed a new set of quantum numbers for describing doubly excited states (widely adopted in the literature) and triply excited states. At Kansas State, in 1980’s and 1990’s, he investigated collisions of multiply charged ions with atoms, initially for high-energy ions from accelerators and then low-energy ions from ion sources. Since 2002, he shifted his research to strong field physics in atoms and molecules. His group developed the molecular tunneling ionization theory (MO-ADK) in 2002 , Quantitative rescattering (QRS) theory in 2008-9. The QRS, when applied to high-order harmonic generation, allows the extraction of structure information of the target. When it is applied to high-energy photoelectrons, leads to laser-induced electron diffraction (LIED). These theories are widely used by experimentalists today. In the past three years (2013-5), his group studied waveform optimization by synthesizing two- or three-color laser pulses to dramatically enhance yields of high harmonics toward the water-window region. Recently his group is looking into the characterization of single attosecond pulses and their applications. Dr. Lin has published nearly 400 journal articles, including six review articles on different topics. As of 2/13/2015, according to Web of Science, his total citation number is 10127, h-index is 50.
