Amazon Rainforest Climate The blue bars show precipitation level (in mm) and the red dots show temperatures in degrees Celsius. If you are not familiar with this temperature scale visit Celsius to Fahrenheit for a quick conversion chart. From November to May rain is very frequent in Manaus. The rainly season means higher water levels - it can rise up to 20 meters - making navigation much easier as many areas get flooded and new shortcuts are created. During dry season its harder to navigate and temperatures are higher, however, its a great moment to experience wildlife in the rainforest. Amazon Rainforest Climate The resources The resources The resources Oil Oil exists in large quantities underneath the Amazon rainforest. Oil development is particularly prominent in Ecuador, where a lawsuit against Texaco and its parent company Chevron has been ongoing for decades. The pollution issues Water Pollution While the Amazon river is the worlds second-longest--behind the Nile--it is the largest in terms of volume, according to National Geographics website. The Amazon river contains 20 percent of the fresh water on Earth and its freshwater systems contain minerals that are important to fertilizing land in the rainforest. Water pollution is worsening in the Amazon as a result of extensive logging in the rainforest. Areas that were once thick with trees have been converted into open plains, resulting in forest flooding. Gold mining is leading to mercury pollution and dams that are being built in the river basin may alter the flow
