This is a reading comprehension class. The text is mainly talk about the theme on people in New York how to celebrate New Year .And by doing some teaching activities to help students understand how do people celebrate New Year in New York. Holiday is not only closely combined with students life, but also is a topic of their common interest. By learning this unit, students can have a better understanding of some important public holidays of the Chinese and foreign, and be able to retell the text and describe the ways about how their family celebrate the New Year. The students that I am supposed to teach are the second-year students of junior high school in Nanning. They have learned English for more than 5 years. Thus, they may have some idea with some phrases about time expression , but not very good at it. In addiction, they have known something about the New Year. In addition, the students at this age are usually active and curious, but, at the same time, they are easy to get absent-minded in class if they are kept reading to the teacher all the time in a passive way. Therefore, in this class, I intend to design various activities so as to activate their schemata, to stimulate their interest, and to make them concentrate on the class. Linguistic objectives understand the text content and succeed in using of the following phrases: as soon as, depend on, count down, get together, a list of, help out, promise… By the end of this class, the students will be able to: .
