Step 1. Greetings and revision.
After greetings and revision. Let the Ss learn the new words and expressions of this period.
Step 2. warming up.
Ask the Ss to answer the following questions.
1. How many countries and regions are the4re in the world?
(about 200)
2. How many languages are there in the world?
(It’s hard to say. As I know there are more than two thousand)
3. How many languages are used as the working languages of the United Nations?
(There are five. They are Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish)
Ask the students to read the dialogue and answer the questions.
1. What is it that Joe can’t find in the bathroom?
(It ‘s the toilet)
2. why can’t he find it?
Perhaps when Joe says “bathroom,” he means a place, where there is a toilet. But in Nancy’s eyes, it is a place where people can only have a bath.
Note; toilet (不文雅用语) loo (英口语) WC =water closet
家庭用 washroom, bathroom
公用: rest room (US) lavatory (Br.)
委婉用 comfort station (US) public conveniences (Br)
Step 3 Listening.
1. Listen to the tape carefully.
2. Try to find out Mr Brown’s landlady house rules.
3. Write down five of them.
Step 4. Speaking.
1. Ask the Ss to practise the dialogue with their partner and act them out.
