【典範與領導】：記劉維玲老師「僕人領導學」專題演講 去年十月，就與劉老師敲定這個題目，之所以會商討出這個題目，並選出《僕人》（The Servant: A Simple Story About the True Essence of Leadership）一書作者：詹姆士?杭特/著 譯者：張沛文/譯 出版社：商周出版 出版日期：2001年08月14日 於我是因為「僕人」一詞出現在赫塞ermann Hesse）的《東方之旅》（The Journey to the East）一書。書中所描述的盟會（The League），其領袖人物「里歐」（Leo, a member who had accompanied the League on the journey - an integral part of their lives）就自詡是一位「僕人」。 因為自己喜歡赫塞，所以特別記得這部小說中「僕人」的意涵，書中（）里歐「服務」了許多旅途中的漂泊者 One must join the brotherhood of man in their faith - not necessarily in God, or science - more appropriately, in their faith in each other. Only through involvement with others in a common vision can the solitude of a man be comforted and controlled. Hesse has skillfully used a journey both physical and emotional of one man H.H. to tell of the true art of servant leadership. 所以西方學界後來就漫漫發展出「僕人領導學」，而且還引用了《聖經?福音》的一章：「你必興旺，我必衰微」。 這些年，我愈來愈感到人生其實就是一種服務而且地位愈高的人與能力愈好的人，就應該要儘量地服務愈多的人《論語》中一句話：子路問政，孔子只簡單回答說：「不倦」。 12-14子張問政。子曰：「居之無倦，行之以忠。」子張問為政之道。先生說：「居職位上，心無厭倦。推行一切政事，皆出之以忠心。」（《論語新解》p434-435） 或許目前的年輕人，基於競爭激烈，並不喜歡服務別人，或許是因為自己學業與人格都仍不成熟，故而仍多所保留，但年長者各方面都已臻於成熟，就該量以立志服務別人為目的。 其次這本書，告訴我們領導的「本質」。劉老師的檔案都有詳細的介紹。敬請大家參閱。例如本書： The true foundation of leadership is not power, but authority（威信）, which is built upon relationships, love, service, and sacrifice……. because its message can be applied by anyone, anywhere—at home or at work.
