Powered by both an internal Hcombustion engine and a battery-operated electric motor, hybrids can achieve up to twice the fuel economy of a conventional car and produce 30 to 50 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to reducing our dependence on oil and improving the environment, hybrids can offer cost savings over the lifetime of vehicle ownership. For governments wanting to improve air quality and set an example of environmental stewardship for their community, hybrids are an attractive option.
