The principle and every part of its system w ere introduced. And differential operators, such as Roberts, Sobel, Prew itt, LOG, Canny and Zerocross, w ere used to extract the edge of w eld pool from acquired images. T he results show that the base metal current is decreased greatly because of the bypass arc, and the brightness of arc above the w eld pool is decreased too . T hat makes getting and processing the w eld pool images easier. In the six edge extraction results of differential operators, the Canny operator can get a continuous, w hole and exact edge
