8B Unit6 A charity walk A charity walk ( Comic strip welcome to the unit ) Teaching aims: 1. To introduce different kinds of needs and disabilities 2. To encourage students to talk about how they can help those in need 3. To encourage students to show love to those in need Main task: I. Try to read the words and phrases of this period according to the sounds II. Listen to the contents in this period for twice or three times (Ask Ss to search and collect information about Charity Walks.) Teaching methods: tape-recorder, community language teaching, content-based instruction teaching Teaching procedures: Step 1: A guessing game Ask students to guess a word according to the information, and let Ss spell it together. (it is an organization. It helps different kinds of people in need) Then, making students learn the new words about this topic. Step 2: Free Talk T: Do you want to help people in need? S: Yes. T: How can you help them? S: We can donate money, clothes, stationery…… T: I’m sure everyone is very kind. We can also organize a charity. Let’ s look at different kinds of national and international charities. (Look at the signs) What are they? S: Project Hope, Oxfam, Spring Bud Project, Save China’s tigers T: Are these national charities or international charities? S: They’re national charities. Use the same way to talk about international charities, ORBIS UNICEF , and ask Ss to answer some questions about them. Step3: Presentation T: Well done, boys and girls! Why are there so many charities in China or around the world ? Ss: They can help people. T: Great. What kinds of people need help? T: We are very happy when we know all these charity groups.
