Abstrac:tThechroniccoplicationsofdiabetesspreadalloverthebody, theprevalencerateofcardiovascular
diseaseofthepatientswithdiabetesincreasesbytwotofourtiescoparedwiththatofhealthyadul.tMono-
cytecheoattractantprotein-1(MCP-1)isa eberofcheotracticcytokinessub-failyofcheokines.Un-
dernoralphysiologicalcondition,stheexpressionlevelofMCP-1 islow.Oncegiventhestiulationsofhy-
perglycei,aadvancedglycationendproducts(AGEP), angiotensinⅡ, oxidativestres,sinfla ation, ec,t
theexpressionlevelofMCP-1 isobviouslyup-regulated.MCP-1 playspivotalroleinthedevelopentofathero-
genesis.Atherosclerosisisnowrecognizedasadiseaseofarterialinfla ationthatarisesfro theinteractions
of igratoryleukocyteswithresidentvascularendothelialcell,ssooth usclecell,sandfibroblasts.Atthe
olecularleve,linteractionsaongthesecelltypesareregulatedbycytokine,sadhesion olecule,sandche-
oattractants.MCP-1 inducesCCR2+ onocytesfro thecirculationtothearteryendotheliu andprootes
onocytedifferentiationintolipid-laden acrophages.MCP-1 alsocontributestotheproliferationofarterial
sooth usclecell,swhichconstitutesthekeycellularcoponentsofatheroscleroticplaques.Nowaday,s ore
attentionisbeingpaidtotherelationshipbetweenMCP-1 andatherosclerosis.Thisarticlesu arizedtheup-
regulationfactorsofMCP-1, the echanissofMCP-1 inthedevelopentofatherosclerosisandtheeffectsof
interventionontheMCP-1, inordertounderstandbetterabouttherelationshipbetweenMCP-1 anddiabetes-
associatedatherosclerosis.
