Method Forty rats were randomly divided into four groups: blank control, TS model, and haloperidol-treated and salidroside-treated. The tic behavioral of each rat was scored, the DA and the 5-HT level of blood and striatum were measured by HPLC to evaluate the effective of the different treatments. Results Compared with the TS model group, the tic behavioral score of rats in the group of haloperidol-treated and salidroside-treated was significant decreased, and after treatment with haloperidol and salidroside, the levels of DA from blood and striatum were significantly elevated, the levels of 5-HT from blood and striatum were significantly elevated in salidroside-treated group .Conclusions Salidroside can effectively treat the tic symptoms of TS, which efficacy is similar to the positive control drug haloperidol, the mechanism of its efficiency maybe related to the regulation of dopamine and 5-HT neurons activities in striatum.
