为什么不用担心日本核电(Why not worry about Japans nuclear power)

为什么不用担心日本核电(Why not worry about Japans nuclear power) I wrote these words here to reassure everyone about the safety of nuclear reactors in Japan. The situation is serious, but it is already under control. This is a long story! But after youve read it, youll know more than any journalist in the world about whats going on in a nuclear reactor. A nuclear leak has indeed occurred, but there will be no significant leakage in the future. How likely would a significant leak be? For example, you might be exposed to more radiation than a long flight or a beer with a high degree of natural radiation in itself. I read all the news reports since the earthquake. Almost none of them are accurate or unmistakable (and probably because of communication problems in Japan after the earthquake). Im not referring to an interview with an anti-nuclear stance, which is quite common now. I mean in which a lot of mistake about physics and natural law, and a large number of writing for misinterpretation of the facts -- probably because people itself does not know is how to build and operate a nuclear reactor. I read a threestory from CNN that contains at least one error per paragraph. Next we will tell you some basic principles about nuclear reactors and then explain what is happening. The Reactors at the fukushima plant belong to the Boiling Water Reactors, or BWR. The boiling water reactor is similar to the steam pressure cooker we normally use. Nuclear fuel to heat water, after boiling water boil, then steam to drive a turbine to produce electricity, and then back to liquid again after steam cooling, and then put the water back to the nuclear fuel for heating. The temperature in the steam pressure cooker is usually about 250 degrees Celsius. The nuclear fuel mentioned above is uranium oxide. Uranium oxide is a ceramic body that melts at 3000 degrees Celsius. The fuel is made into a small cylinder (imagine a small cylinder of lego dimensions). The cylinders were put into a long barrel made
