Centr al Iron Steel R esearch Institute, Beijing 1000 81, China) Abstract: U sing the org anic montmorillonite/ cetyltrimethy ammonium br omide M M T / CT AB) deposited w ith Ziegler Natta cata- lyst as precursor the gr anular polyethylene/ montmorillo nite PE/ M M T ) nano-composites w ere prepared by the in sit u poly merization method. T he microstructur e and pr operties of the nano- composites w ere investigated by SEM , T EM , XRD and DSC etc and the ef- f ects of the content for montmor illonite on the melt point and crystalline behaviors w er e analyzed. Results show that the str ucture of montmorillonite is destroyed and the exfoliated nano- montmorillonite slices are dispersed uniformly in t he polyethylene matrix. T he PE/ M M T co mposites w ith g ood pro perties are obtained w hen the mass fraction of montmorillonite in t he nano- composite materials is about 3% .
