At the end of the 1990s, in the Internet world, the emergence of search engines made it easier for people to search for information on the Internet, which greatly improved the efficiency of Internet use. After the Overture company launched the PPC service in 1998, the Internet search service industry is in the ascendant. Google seized the opportunity to provide search technology for large web companies and launch an independent search service website. Soon, Google became the worlds largest Internet search service company.
At present, Google has 112 international domain names in the world, more than 50% of search hits come from outside the United States, and the average market share of network search requests is more than 70%. More than 50% of Google search hits come from outside the United States, with the worlds only identity users reaching 380 million [1] a month. After the launch of AdWords keyword advertising in 2000, Googles Internet advertising revenue grew rapidly. 2008 fiscal year, Google operating income reached $21 billion 800 million, of which the absolute majority of revenue from Internet advertising services.
Google heady, but in the China market, it has been a strong challenge Baidu. In the Chinese market in 2008, preferred 76.9% of Baidus first search engine, and only 16.6% [2] for first choice Google. In search of web content, Baidu had 73.2% market share, and Google was only 20.7%.
This case compares the business models of Baidu and Google and the competition between the two in Chinese search field.
