Abs tract: investigation and analysis of 26 severe electric pow er pollution flashover accidents happening in Chang-
zh i City during 1 80- 2003w eremade and the cause and spatiotemporal distribution of the accidentsw ere studied.
Them ain causes of the accidentsw ere ind icated as adverse w eather situation. A fter analysis of the m ain w eather
condition ( thick fog, light snow, sleet, drizzle, light rain, ice-thaw etc. ) andmainw eather factors ( relative hum id-
ity, air temperature, w ind direction, w ind speed, freeze, snow s etc. ) on induction of the accidents, some synthe-t
ical indexes for every w eather condition and classified forecast standard for possibilities of electric pow er pollution
flashover accidentsw ere established . Finally, detailed safety measuresw ere proposed to prevent the accidents.
