洞穴奇案一点乱侃
“A Cave Drawing for the Age”Paper Topic IName: Yi RenHUID:here are arguments about whether the four spelunkers are justified in killing their companion for saving themselves in the case of “A Cave Drawing for the Age”. If I were the 6th justice at the Supreme Court for this murder case, I believe that I would choose to not support the lower court’s verdict of punishing the four by death. The reason that 2 Justices may claim that the four should be punished by death is that Roger Whetmore– the victim – was not willing to sacrifice himself to save others. In fact, he tried to persuade others to wait for another week then decide who is going to sacrifice. However, three of the defendants ignored his wish and cast the dice for him, which ultimately caused his death. Therefore the four defendants have the intention of killing Roger. Furthermore, they may also argue that there are several other measures they could take instead of killing Roger immediately, for instance, waiting for the first death of weakest member and live on eating his flesh. In contrast, my opinion is that Roger was the first person came up with the idea of killing one companion and the rest can survive on his flesh according his conversation with the physician through wireless machine. Hence, I believe that the victim himself had the intention to kill other people as well. Moreover, the decision of sacrificing Roger Whetmore was made by rolling a fair dice that everyone had same chance of dying, therefore no one was guilty of setting him up. Also, bearing that in mind, spelunkers had all agreed on choosing one victim and three of them had already rolled the dice, if the process were stopped by Roger – who hasn’t rolled the dice – it would be unfair to them since waiting for another seven days would increase the probability of their death.I also rule to overturn the verdict because I believe that is ethically right to sacrifice one people and save more lives since it’s a utilitarian approach in
