IEC has shifted its focus to the process bus, combining the development of IEC 61850, Ed 2, and IEC, to further study and develop standards such as IEC 62439-3 and IEEE 1588-2008. This paper first describes the typical technical features of IEC 62439-3 standard, and explains the technical principle of its support for network free recovery. Then IEC 62439-3 is applied to the process bus, and compared with the traditional protection system, analysis of the structure with different process bus digital protection system, analyzes the reliability of protection system with different structure parameters by reliability block diagram. Finally, the paper gives some suggestions for the network structure which should be adopted in process layer bus.
