台灣東部蛇紋岩製備堇青石之研究* Synthesis of Cordierite from Serpentine of Eastern Taiwan 1 2 1 2 F.L. Lai , D.T. Ray In eastern Taiwan, along the east wing of Central Range, there is a huge serpentine resources distributed in Feng-Tien, Wan-Jung, Jui-Sui and Yu-Li areas. The estimated serpentine 20 resource is about 2 billion tons. The serpentine is ranked third as mineral commodity produced in R.O.C. In this study, serpentine and kaolinite were mixed at appropriate proportions and were subj ected to solid-state reaction to synthesize cordierite. The cordierite ceramics were prepared from the synthesized 1 4 1 2.25 powders. Our reserach results showed that α-cordierite can be 1300 synthesized from the mixture of serpentine and kaolinite at the 1 hr α- molar ratios from 1:4 to 1:2.25 at temperatures above 1300 13006 hr for 1 hr. The cordierite ceramic body sintered at 1300for 98% 6 hr has a density of 98% theoretical.
