School of C ivil Engineering, Guangzhou University, Guangzhou 510405, China) Ab stract:A mi ing at the comp licated surface structure of coa,l atom ic force microscopy (AFM )is used to observe su rface characteristic of coal in mesoscopic scale. A preliminary observation on the su-r face of coal is done by AFM. The wt o-dmi ension and three-dmi ension graphics are obtained. The analysis of the roughness, hierarchic and pow er on coal surface is concluded according to AFM observation. The resu lt indicates that amp litude parameters are characteristic parameters that are token surface roughness and it is useful to analyse the surface fractal character by using pow er spectrum.
