Abstract: The article aims to establish an effective calculating method of short location pin
heights after discussing the locating principle of cylindrical pin and analyzing the conditions that
short location pin must be met in order to successfully realize locating during the clearance fit of
locating holes locating pin. Then，an engineering example is adopted to demonstrate the use of
the method. The result shows that the method is effective，and it will help us to solve the
quantification problem about the boundary between long pin and short pin.
