Most variations of the tale also employ three animals. In this version, and most versions of the tale, the pigs are not named. One notable exception is the tale recorded by Andrew Lang in his Green Fairy Book. In his Three Little Pigs, the pigs have names and a birth order: The eldest of the little pigs was called Browny, the second Whitey, and the youngest and best looking Blacky.
