CHAPTER 4
NETWORKING AND THE INTERNET;How can networks be classified?
What is the Client/Server Model?
What is Distributed Systems?
How to classify the applications on the Internet?
What is WWW?
What are ASP, JSP, PHP?
What are Security and public-key encryption?;Content;Network Fundamentals; The concept of Network ;Networks Classification;Networks Classification;Networks Classification;Base on the connection of machines
Wired Networks
The connection between machines in a network need be physical
The machines are connect by Twisted-pair line or fiber line
Transmitted signal through the line
Wireless Networks
The connection between machines in a network need be not physical
It utilizes traditional radio broadcast technology
Transmitted signal propagates in all directions
Usually used to implement a bus network, the bus is not a physical wire but instead is a segment of the broadcast frequency spectrum;Bridge
It is a coupling device of connecting two networks which are compatible.
When two networks are connected via a bridge, the result is simply a large single network
See figure 4.2a
Router
The connection between two networks to form an internet is handled by a machine known as Router.
Router connects network which are not compatible and must convert between the idiosyncrasies of the two original networks
The original networks maintain their individuality and just send message between two networks (See figure 4.2b);Figure 4.1 a-b Networks Network topologies (Ring, Bus) ;Figure 4.1 c-d Networks Network topologies (Star, Irregular) ;Figure 4.2 The distinction between a bridge and a router;The Client/Server Model;The Client/Server Model;The Peer-to-Peer Model;The Client/Server Model;Figure 4.3a The Client/Server model (1);Figure 4.3b The Client/Server model (2);Figure 4.4 The Client/Server model compared to the Peer-to-Peer model;The Distributed Systems;The Internet;Internet Architecture;Internet Architecture;IP address
