Because the tower is so tall that you can almost see it anywhere in Paris. The tower is 320 meters high including the aerial at the top of the tower. Since the day when it was completed (1889.03.31), it had been the highest building in the world for more than 40 years until the Empire State Building (帝国大厦) in New York City, which is 381 meters high, was built in 1931. Empire State Building Tour Eiffel In memory of the 100th anniversary of French Revolution, French Government decided to hold a world exposition and build a tower for that. “Eiffel” is the name of the famous engineer who designed the “tower”. Lookouts in the tower There are three lookouts in the tower. On the top lookout which is 276 meters from the ground, you can feast your eyes on the whole peaceful scenery of Paris. Visitors can pay and take the elevator to go to the top lookout. On the middle lookout, it is said you can enjoy the most beautiful scenery. The lowest lookout is just like a busy street in which there are restaurants, cinema, post office, etc. When you are walking there, you will feel that you are not on the height of 57 meters. Lookouts in the tower If the visitors want to take the elevators to get on the lookouts, they have to pay for that. However, if the visitors want to save their money, or if they think they are strong and patient enough, they can take the stairs—345 steps of stairs to the first lookout, another 359 steps to the second lookout. Visitors can only take elevators to get to the highest lookout. It is said that if the visitors want to take the elevators to get to the highest lookout during the midseason of the tour time, it would be very common for them to wait in the line for more than two hours for the elevators.
