The tyranny of his father and the separation of his loved mother gave to his whole life melancholy. Studied at Eton school, Cambridge. Had three years’ tour of the Continent with his friend Horace Walpole. 1742, he returned to Cambridge. As a scholar and professor, he lived his rest of his life in Cambridge except four tours and visits to Scotland and the Lake District, in search of beauty and the Sublime in nature.
