X - ray d i raction and TEM characteriza tions o the cata lysts show ed that the as-prepa red Pt- A u / C ca talyst has a sm a ll par- tic le size w ith a re la tive ly narrow size d istribution and re la tive ly low cry sta llin ity. The mean particle size o the P t- A u / C cata ly st a ter heat treatm ent at 600 is only slightly larger than that o the as-prepared ca talyst, indica ting that the P t - A u bmi eta llic cata lyst exh ibits a good therm al stab ility. In compar ison to the comm e rc ia lly av ailable P t/ C ca talyst rom E- T ek, the b mi eta llic P t- A u cata lyst exh ibits an enhanced electrocata ly tic activ ity or the ox ygen reduction reac tion.
