Vol. No. 2003 Rock and Soil Mechanics A Study on the Calculation of Negative Skin Resistance in the Pile ZHAO Minghua HE Wei CAO Wengui (Geotechnical Engineering Institute, Hunan University, Changsha 410082,China) Abstract: As it has long been recognized that, negative skin resistance most possibly exists in piles when the soil around pile move downward relative to the pile, so to determine the distribution rule and find appropriate calculation methods of negative skin resistance are of important theoretical and practical significance in engineering. The forming mechanism and primary influential factors of negative skin resistance were first discussed in this paper. Then, based on the load transfer method and improved Kezdi’s double-broken-line model, the differential equation of negative skin resistance along the pile shaft was established with a piecewise analytical solutions, which is suitable for any kind of soil settlement curve, was also obtained under considering the character of layered stratum. Lastly, an engineering example was analyzed by the method in combination with the Boussinesq solution, the results fits good with the spot measured data.
