On the Order of English Teaching--- Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing
[Abstract]
Today, listening, speaking, reading and writing is the order of English teaching in senior middle school. The teaching emphasis is put on listening and speaking, but not on reading. But taking the current state of senior English teaching into consideration, it is almost impossible to achieve this. This paper comes up with a new order of teaching, that is, teaching English in the order of reading, listening, speaking and then writing. Reading ability is the most important for senior English learning.

1. Introduction
With the development of international exchange, English language plays a more and more important role in our daily lives, so we need to do better to meet the requirement. Listening, speaking, reading and writing are the four basic skills demanded in English teaching. Of course, listening and speaking are the purposes. But, in middle schools, which skill of the four should be the most basic? This paper just deals with the order of English teaching in senior middle schools.
Today, “Quality Education” is advocated. That is, students should keep balanced among listening, speaking, reading and writing. The chief principle of middle school teaching approaches is that listening and speaking come first and that the purpose is to communicate. That seems to mean that our teaching emphasis should be put on listening and speaking, but not reading. But taking the current state of our teaching into consideration, it is almost impossible to achieve success in realizing the principle. The American application linguist S.Krashen ever put forward the idea that the best way to learn languages is through understandable input. The more this kind of input is, the better the language is mastered.
