Comfortable and pleasant square landscape environment requires the designer carefully conceived. City square landscape usually consists of green, green space, floor, water features, accessories and lighting, etc. This paper mainly introduces the history of city square, definition, function, type, design principles and design elements. Hope through to the analysis and study of each landscape elements, provide more basis for square landscape design, as well as to create comfortable and pleasant environment provides a broader idea of square. In the process of writing papers, I for the city square in the many different types of doubt, through access to information, I understand about classification of urban square, and all kinds of square has what kind of characteristics. When I was in the city square design elements, I consult a large amount of data, these data let me about how to make a good city square design had the further understanding. 2. 城市广场历史回顾 我国历史上城市广场的演变是由ldquo;市rdquo;而来，南宋时期，由于商品买卖进一步专业化，市场根据形势的发展要求，以崭新的姿态重新组合，构成了一个有机整体。人们在ldquo;市rdquo;的周围，为了进行商品交换，构筑了大量的建筑以适应其需要。这种自然形成的商品空间具有广场空间的某些特征，也可以称为我国广场的自然发展雏形。 从世界范围来看，城市广场是在多种因素影响下形成和发展，突出的有以下三种因素：其一是社会文化因素，社会文化不同必然显现出不同的城市广场风格和做法。其二是政治宗教因素，君主集权统治下的广场多以体现君主的权威为目的；宗教统治下的广场多以体现神的意志为目的；民主制度下的城市广场根据人们的生活需求演变而来。其三是经济因素，经济活动直接影响着广场土地使用，推动着整个城市的发展。总之，在数千年的城市发展过程中，城市广场的范畴在不断地发展演变，通过以下资料可概括出广场的历史： ⑴ldquo;广场rdquo;源自古希腊，最初用于议政和市场（FORUM），是人们进行户外活动和社交的ldquo;城市的起居室rdquo;，其特性、位置是松散和不固定的； ⑵从古罗马时代开始，广场的使用功能逐步由集会、市场扩大到宗教、礼仪、纪念和娱乐等，广场也开始固定为某些公共建筑前附属的外部场地（PLAZA）； ⑶中世纪意大利的广场功能
