人才流失反让企业更受益(Brain drain makes enterprises more benefit)
Is employee turnover detrimental to the business? Most of the answer is yes. Because with the staff turnover enterprises, the loss is not only the human capital of — — skills and accumulated over the years of work experience, including social capital — — the relationship between employees and enterprises during set up. In other words, the traditional view is that employee turnover means loss of tangible and intangible capital. However, this view is outdated.
In late 80s the battle for talent to make the enterprise managers in order to solve the problem of talent have resorted to various tricks: how to attract the best talent, how to retain them; how to design employee career, create promotion opportunities, in case they are competitors to poach etc.. 20 years ago, this was undoubtedly an insightful and farsighted talent strategy. At the time of increasingly fierce competition and increasingly globalized business environment, talent was indeed rare. However, the situation has changed. There is no doubt that it is still crucial for companies to compete for the best talent. However, managers do not have to care too much about employee turnover, because at any stage of the economy, a certain proportion of employee turnover will bring benefits to the long-term development of the enterprise.
A recent study of creative industries in INSEAD, a European campus in Fontainebleau, found that firms may benefit from employee turnover. We interviewed dozens of senior executives in the global fashion industry and collected employment information from thousands of fashion professionals. From the data we collected, we analyzed the impact of the employees job hopping on their former fashion companies.
Surprisingly, we found that designers switching from one fashion company to another could actually bring better performance to the original fashion company. This stems from the original fashion company will benefit from the social c
