Tutorial on Creating Curved Staircases – Part 1 There are numerous ways to create a curved staircase. We can create one by inserting the springing point and then typing in the internal radius (we call this Geometric – Insert Free), or we can attach a curved staircase to an existing arc (called Geometric – Insert Arc) or we can attach a geometric to an existing flight (called Geometric – Insert Flight) The first one I will cover will be Geometric – Insert Free With the main screen of Flightmaster open, using the main menu on the right, select Geometric. You will then be faced with the following options: In this case we will select Insert Free and you will then see the cross-hairs attach to the cursor on the screen. You are being asked at the bottom of the screen to insert the springing point of the staircase. Click anywhere on the screen and you will then be asked to insert the bottom left hand corner of the staircase. Now, rather than clicking somewhere on the screen ( as we haven’t established a scale on the screen yet) I want you to type in a distance from the last point. In other words, if you know the internal radius of your staircase is 2’, then type in ix2 (this stands for an Incremental distance of 2 feet in the x axis). You will see a line flashing on the screen – don’t be alarmed if this line appears to go off the screen, it will scale itself automatically in a minute. When this line is flashing, it is asking you to select which side of the line the staircase is going, in this instance, we will select above it. You will then be asked to enter a height for the staircase (use 10’ in this example) and you should then see a staircase start to be built. Note: The software will default to building a stairca
