How ever, the iterative procedure of the capacity spectrum method in the ATC40 procedureA do not converge for some inelastic systems. The convergence analysis of the capacity spectrum method inATC40 is studied by using the theory of chaotic dynam ics. The deformation of inelastic system is solved iteratively by using the equ ivalent linearization for ATC40 capacity spectrum method, wh ich forms a d iscrete non linearmap or d ifference equation. For discrete dynam ical system, the bifurcation plots of iterative solution of the system are presented w ith the change of controlling parameters.
