教学设计3
1. Learn new words and phrases.
2. To get the general idea of the text.
3. Language points and to practice using vocabulary belonging to the same semantic family.
Teaching important difficult points
1. Words and phrases: slavery, oilfield, security, ending, weep, shoot, unconscious, pile, frontier, representative, greet, remark, distribute, in surprise, in peace, take sb. in one’s arms…
2. To improve students’ reading abilities.
3. How to use the useful and important words and phrases.
4. How to get the general idea in a limited time.
Teaching procedures
Step 1 Revision
Review the new words of Lesson 2 and have a dictation:
stand up for, rugby, put forward, bakery, sneaker, from then on, give in, send for, subscribe, appoint, union, have a gift for, sculpture, pyramid, commercial, nutrition, tip…
Step 2 Learn the new words
1. Ask some students to read the new words first and correct their pronunciation:
slavery, oilfield, security, ending, weep, shoot, unconscious, pile, frontier, representative, greet, remark, distribute, in surprise, in peace, take sb. in one’s arms…
2. Play the tape and have them read after the tape.
3. Give them a few minutes to read the new words freely, tell them if they can’t read the words, encouraged them to ask the teacher.
Step 3 Reading
1. Before you start
(A) Have students look at the pictures on the page and say they know about World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War.
(B) Students work in pairs, match the wars with the years during which they happened.
World War I a) 1914-1918
2) World War II b) 1937-1945
3) The Vietnam War c) 1939-1945
d) 1954-1975
e) Jan.17- Feb.28, 1991
(C) Checking their answers, have them give reasons for their choice if they disagree about any of the answers.
2. Read to learn
(A) Read out the strategies to the class. Ask students which of these strategies they use, if they have to read a text
