2. PROJECT EXPEDITING
2.02.1 PURPOSE
This section describes those activities that are inherent in performing the Expediting function, whether on project, at the jobsite or in Supplier facilities. It also provides guidance on how to handle and resolve common problems faced by an Expediter.

2.02.2 RESPONSIBILITLES
Expediting is the process of executing a task promptly and accelerating the activity if possible. Expediters have the task of ensuring that Suppliers meet the contractual dates specified in the Purchase Order (PO), if problems are anticipated, arise or Supplier has difficulty meeting the schedule, then the Expediters task is to investigate the issue, help find solutions, and initiate action that will eliminate or minimize any schedule delay(s).
In addition to the above activity with Suppliers, project Expediting monitors and coordinates progress of internal project activities to ensure early milestones toward overall schedule maintenance are met.
These tasks are usually accomplished through both project and area Expediting working together as a team.
Project Expediters (PEX) are normally located with the Procurement team in the project office and/or the Project Procurement Manager (PPM). Their principal duties which are sometimes referred to as “Desk Expediting” include, but are not limited to:
? Administration of assigned Purchase Orders
? Monitoring of Supplier progress
? Providing project personnel with schedule status on assigned Purchase Orders
? Investigating cause of any delays
? Facilitating the resolution of problems
Area Expediters (SEX) are located throughout the world near major industrial areas. They visit Supplier and sub-Supplier shops to expedite work progress, to anticipate and assist in the identification and resolution of potential and actual problems, and to provide reports to the Project.
