This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution International License (CC BY). /licenses/by/4.0/ Open Access Abstract Based on review of chemical composition of the genus of Calvatia sp., the chemical constituents of the puffball Calvatia candida from Foshan were analyzed by pre-test tube method, and its antioxi- dant activities were evaluated by the biochemical assay of hydroxyl and DPPH radicals scavenging activity in vitro. The results show that, the puffball Calvatia candida from Foshan contain alkaloids, steroids and terpenoids, and have potent antioxidant activities with IC50 values of 241.55 (for ·OH) and 418.63 (for DPPH) μg/mL, respectively.
