Department of Radiology, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan 610041, China 【Abstract】 Purpose To evaluate the value of 16-slice spiral computed tomography (SCT) and its three-dimensional reconstruction in diagnosis of aortic aneurysms (AA). Methods Thirty-two patients with AA underwent 16-slice SCT, performed with unenhanced, contrast-enhanced scanning and three-dimensional reconstructions. Results The size, shape, track, intraluminal thrombi, calcification and the relation with branch vessels of AA could be clearly shown on CT and CTA images. 29 of 32 cases were conformed by operation. The size, the length, and the dilatation of ascending aortic root of 26 aneurysms measured by CT and CTA images were conformed by operation (100%). The size, the entry site and the length of aneurismal neck of 3 pseudo-aneurysms measured by CT and CTA images were accordant with surgery 66.7% (2/3), 66.7% (2/3) and 100% (3/3), respectively. Conclusion 16-slice SCT axial and three-dimensional images can fast, exactly, non-invasively and completely reveal the pathological and anatomical features of aortic aneurysms, and provide detailed imaging information for clinical therapy. It’s very important for the selection of treatment strategies, the observation of curative effect and the follow-up of patients.
