The hatchingrateof C. f arreri was only 30% when the fertilized eggswere exposedfor 36 hours to A . t ama rense cells at a concentration of 100 cellsmL, and further dropped to 5% with the concentration of 500cellsmL. There was no such effects when thefertilizedscallop eggs exposed to othertwo algal species, thediatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum andraphidophyteH eterosigma carter ae . The alga at early exponential stage had the strongest effect on egg hatching and algal toxin( s) influenced the developmental stagebefore blastulamost sensitively. The alga also deliriously influenced the larvae at early Dshape stageof the scallop. The survival ratebegan to de crease significantly after exposed for 6 days at concentration of 3000cellsmL and above; no larvae could survive after 14 day exposureto A . tamarense at 10 000 cellsmL or 20 day at 5000cellsmL.
