Abstract: Apoptosis is a common phenomenon in developmental processes or in normal physiological
conditions, where the old or damaged cells have to be eliminated. Apoptosis is induced by an array of extra- or
intracellular stimuli and regulated by a variety of proteins including the heat shock proteins (HSPs). The present
discussion is focused on the functions of HSPs in the regulation of apoptosis.
