Point out how the demand is fulfilled quickly! Getting customer satisfaction! Customer demand is not scheduled through the shop! Ask the question of the students…..How long does it take you to get the customers order through your shop? _____Weeks, _____ days??? How long would it take to simply ship the customers order if you always had a small quantity in stock?? Maybe hours??? This consumption (the customers order) would then trigger the assembly line to replenish what was just shipped. However the only way the assembly line could quickly respond is if the Kanban card was the signal or the schedule….No time to have MRP run off a schedule in this quick response environment!!! The only way the assembly line could quickly build the demand is if they had all the materials for all models at point of use…..No releasing a schedule to the back shop for parts and then waiting for the parts to arrive…because all these materials at POU would also be on Kanban so they could signal to the next process up stream. Can you imagine what quick response and flexibility this would provide???? Critical to this happening is materials at POU, Kanban and quick change over. Now if the subassembly area has materials at POU and they respond to signals from the assembly line….They would need no schedule….Just signals….No MRP or waiting here! Note: no one needs a schedule, no expediting, no planning meetings This same concept expands to fabrication areas Still no schedules, no MRP, no waiting, no expediting, little or no managing….While achieving world class satisfaction! This concept extends further to the suppliers…..When will this end! Now lets review this picture: No delays to the customers No expediting No scheduling No scheduling meetings No MRP execution How much time do you think your
