But form 16th-century, European imperialist countries started establishing trading posts in India and gradually establishingcolonies. By 1856, most of India had come under the control of the British East India Company, and gradually became a colony of Great Britain. In the 20th-century, a nationwide struggle for independence was launched by the India National Congress and other political organizations. The most famous and defining part of this movement was the nonviolenceresistance led by Mahatam Gandhi. On 15 Augest 1947, the British rule was dissolved. But the Muslim-majority areas were separated from India which led to the creation of a separate sovereign country know as Pakistan. Form 1950s to 1980s, India went through a period of pervasive corruption and slow economic growth due to conservative economy polices. But in 1991, significant economic reforms have transformed India into one of the fastest-growing economyin the world. Today, India has become the eleventh-largest economy in the world according to its GDP. And
