Iris recognition helps Canadian officials streamline airport operations while maintaining a safe and secure border. Iris recognition authenticates pre-approved, low-risk travelers who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States and Canada and clears them through express lane customs and immigration. CANPASS-Air is operational at Pearson International Airport in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Winnipeg. The system has been extended to a bilateral system with the U.S. in Vancouver airport with the other seven airports to follow by the end of 2006. The hardware and software for CANPASS-Air is Iridian Proof Positive-certified, ensuring that the highest quality standards are met. All Iridian-certified iris recognition cameras meet US and international eye safety standards. Proof Positive-certification also guarantees scalability and full hardware and software interoperability, giving CCRA the option to extend the system with additional Proof Positive cameras or software in the future.
