To discuss the key scientific objectives of the 5-year Mariana Trench Initiative, starting late 2015.2. To discuss the logistics of the scientific experiments, including the following:(a) Specific science surveys and experiments to be conducted;?(b) Instruments to be used and the providers of instruments;?(c) Participating institutions in China and internationally;(d) List of potential shipboard science party and shore-based scientists; ?(e) Timelines for three expeditions, the 1st being late 2015/2016(f) Timelines for preparing instruments;(g) Other logistic issues.TENTATIVE LIST OF INVITED PARTICIPANTS:This workshop is by invitation only (limited to about 30 people). The potential participants including the following:From SISCO:?Relevant SCSIO group leaders, including those from key labs of marginal sea geology, physical oceanography, and marine biology.1.
