Rough Hair stands at the peak of J apanese Romantic poetry for its theoretical and artistic originality and pathbreaking contribution to Meiji poetry. The current arti cle offers simultaneously a phenomenal and textual analysis of how Rough Hair had reached such a peak and an authororiented causal analysis of why Yosano Akiko had come up with this ode to rebellious youth .
