The Influence of Chinas Foreign Trade on the Development of National Economic Xu Yang Since the founding of the Peoples Republic of China in 1949, China has been upholding the principle of independence and self-reliance and gradually developing foreign economic and trade exchanges. However, foreign trade developed slowly due to international political environment and national planned economy system. In 1978, China began to try to open the economy. Local officials of Guangdong Province persuaded the central government to set up export processing zone in the city near Hong Kong – Shenzhen. Finally, in 1979, the proposal was approved by the State Council. Between 1980 and 1981, the Chinese government decided to select more cities in Guangdong and Fujian as special economic zones to try the implementation of market economy, so as to promote Chinese goods in global market by attracting Foreign Direct Investment, technological equipment, operation and management methods as well as experience. These measures opened China to the world gradually and formed a pattern of special economic zones - coastal open cities - coastal economic open zones - the mainland, a new multi-level opening up pattern combining points, lines and faces with highlights. In September 2008, Lehman Shock happened (In 2008 , the fourth largest investment bank of United States Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy protection due to investment losses after failure in negotiation of buyout, triggering a global financial tsunami. U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve helped to save Bear Stearns on the verge of bankruptcy, but refused to rescue Lehman Brothers, which aroused a major controversy. The market confidence collapsed out of control and the stock market broke down rapidly. One of the important lessons learnt from the financial crisis caused by the shock was that the competition among lenders brought innovation, but also caused a high degree of instability.)
