Chapter 1 Introduction1.1 RationaleIn the age of economic globalization, the translation of Chinese cosmetic instructions becomes the key point in selling products successfully in foreign countries. Since different countries have different cultures, cosmetic instructions translation not only has to provide basic information accurately, but also has to pay proper attention to the cultural differences. However, the study of cosmetic instructions translation needs to be developed further more. Actually, under the theory of functional translation, the translation of cosmetic instructions is supposed to convey the message both direct and deep information in a way that can be accepted by the readers.Hence, in this paper, the writer intends to find out some useful strategies in translating Chinese cosmetic instructions into English (the phrase appeared in the following sentences is expressed by C-E translation of cosmetic instructions) to help product sell in foreign countries. Firstly, the writer attempts to study the basic features and requirements of translating Chinese cosmetic instructions. Then through analyzing the existing problems, the writer aims to help the readers, especially those who translate Chinese cosmetic instructions into English, to have a better understanding of the translation.1.2 Literature ReviewGenerally speaking, many scholars have involved in this field of research. Some of them discuss the characteristics of cosmetic instructions. For example, Luo Zifeng and Jiang Xianwen (2010: 243) believes that any cosmetic instructions are the carrier of culture, so the translator should pay more attention to the differences between Chinese and western culture. Apart from this point of view, Zhou Chengfang (2011:312) thinks another characteristic of great concern is getting readers emotional?appeal. Wang Xin, Cao Jueyang, and Xing Cheng (2013: 59) emphasize the existing problems in C-E translation of cosmetic instructions, including mistranslation, cultura
