These wines require lots of sun and heat which develops into robust and rich wine with plum and dark fruit flavors. Syrah / Shiraz: Traditionally from the Northern Rhone region where wine has been grown for centuries in Hermitage, this spicy wine has made it move all over the world with great results in Australia. A wine that develops qualities based on where it is grown gives beautiful aromas of violets, black berries, espresso, chocolate and pepper. Pinot Noir: Known as the heartbreak grape due to its painstaking care required, this grape will only produce wines with any worth in vary specific regions of the world. Namely Burgundy France, the only red varietal grown there, in the cooler regions of California and recently in New Zealand. This grape needs to be grown in cooler climates or its result can be quite jammy. Red grape varietals Sangiovese: The great grape of Tuscany, the main contender in Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and in the more recent Super Tuscan wines where it is used in an untraditional blend. This grape produces wines with high acidity for a red wine with strawberry and light spiced notes, but when aged can render tarry and oaked flavors. Due to its acidity levels this wine pairs beautifully with higher acid foods like tomatoes. Nebbiolo: The great Barolo and Barbaresco wines of Piedmont are produced with Nebbiolo, Nebbio meaning fog. In mid October a heavy fog rolls into the wine region as harvest is about to commence leading to the theory of the grapes name. Nebbiolo produces a very light coloured
