It is a minimally invasive option for the internal drainage of pancreatic pseudocysts (PPC). This study investigated the application of totally laparoscopic Roux-en-Y cystojejunostomy as the sole treatment option for PPC. METHODS: Four cases of pancreatic pseudocyst (2 males and 2 females; age range, 32-58 years; mean age, 45 years) were treated by laparoscopic Roux-en-Y cystojejunostomy between June 2006 and July 2008. Patients were followed up for post-surgical complications and their clinical outcomes were evaluated. RESULTS: The operations were carried out successfully in all cases. The mean operation time was 90 minutes, and the average intraoperative bleeding was 40 ml. All patients were fully recovered. The average hospital stay was 7 days. Fever, pancreatitis, pancreatic fistula ankylenteron, and other serious complications were not observed in all patients during their postoperative follow-up period of 6-24 months (average 14.4 months). CONCLUSIONS: Our initial work showed that totally laparoscopic Roux-en-Y cystojejunostomy as a sole treatment for PPC is safe, practical, effective, and minimally invasive. The high successful rate, low recurrence and postoperative complication rates, and decreased morbidity make this procedure an attractive treatment option for PPC.
