Since you have enjoyed almost all the artificial scenery in the city, I’d like to show you one of the famous natural landscapes in the region –the Baiyun Mountain Forest Park. I am sure you’ll love it. Well, the Baiyun Mountain Forest Park is seated in the South of Songxian County under Luoyang, about 180 km south to the city. Before we get there, I’d like to give some general ideas about it. OK, the Baiyun Mountain, or White Cloud Mountain in English, stared to be open to the outside as a tourist zone in late 1980s. As in summer white cloud is often seen over the mountain peaks, hence it was named. It was approved a state-grade forest park by the Ministry of Forestry in 1992. In June 1997, it was chosen as one of the “Top Ten Attractive Places for Travel and Sightseeing” In Henan Province, and ranked No. Three in the list.In1998,it was authorized as one of the state-grade natural preserves, and was elected as one of the “Top Ten Excellent Scenic Zones” in Luoyang in May 2000. Everywhere in the park you can see wonderful stones and hills with fair-sounding stories and legends. So pretty names, such as “Eminent Mountain”, “Terrestrial Fairyland”, etc, were given to the park by influential persons.
