This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution International License (CC BY). /licenses/by/4.0/ Abstract Children’s meta-cognition is one of the important fields in modern cognitive, developmental and educational psychology. Meta-cognition can be defined as the evaluation and control of one’s cog- nitive processes, and is an essential capability for individuals to effectively regulate their learning activities and improve learning efficiency. The present article analyzed the relevant literature on the meta-cognition development, which includes the two components: meta-cognitive knowledge, and meta-cognitive monitor and control. The research methodology employed and the issues concerned widely by researchers were also introduced. The present article also emphasized on the developmental trends of each meta-cognitive component. Finally, the summary and prospect of the study on the meta-cognition development were given.
