In this paper, an in- tera t ive segment ation approa h w ith a ombination of 3D( three-dimensional) narrow -band level set algorithm and visualization te hnology w as adopt ed to separate the o hlea. T he 3D narrow -band level set algorithm w as used t o separate the obje t ive of interest from volume data, and t he visualization te hnology was used to display the segmented result . Users ould modify intermediate paramet ers based on the dire t 3D visual feedba k unt il getting satisfy ing result. The basi prin iple and hara terist i s of level set and narrow -band level set algorithms were des- ribed in det ail. The 3D narrow -band level set algorithm w as su essfully used to separat e t he o hlea from spiral CT images of t he temporal bone . T he experimental results show that the intera tive method ombining the - narrow band level set algorithm w ith visualizat ion te hnique is apable of segmenting the o hlea from the medi al volume data .
